Our Beliefs
The foundational truths that guide Lighthouse Baptist Church.
The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and preserved Word of God. We hold the King James Bible to be the authoritative and trustworthy Word of God for English-speaking people. The Scriptures are our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.
The Godhead
We believe in one true and living God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. These three are one God, equal in power and glory.
The Person and Work of Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh, born of a virgin, and without sin. He lived a perfect life, died a substitutionary death for our sins, was buried, and rose again bodily the third day. He ascended into heaven and will return again in power and glory.
Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not of works. All men are sinners by nature and by choice, and must be born again to be saved. We believe in the eternal security of the believer—that those who are truly saved are kept by the power of God. Salvation results in a transformed life, evidenced by repentance, faith, and a growing desire to walk in obedience to Christ. We believe the Gospel is to be freely offered to all, and that each person is responsible to respond in faith.
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer, guiding, convicting, and empowering them to live a godly life. He produces spiritual fruit and leads believers into truth through the Word of God. We believe God is able to heal and perform miracles according to His will, and that He works through prayer and faith. We do not elevate individuals as healers or miracle workers, but look to the Lord as the source of all power.
The Church
We believe the local church is a body of baptized believers, assembled together for worship, fellowship, discipleship, and the preaching of the Word of God. Each local church is autonomous under Christ, yet part of the greater body of Christ, which includes all true believers. The church exists to glorify God, edify believers, and proclaim the Gospel to the world.
Ordinances
We believe the two ordinances given to the church are baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper. These are acts of obedience and remembrance, not means of salvation.
Christian Living
We believe that believers are called to live holy and separated lives, reflecting the character of Christ. This includes purity in thought and conduct, modesty, integrity, and faithfulness. We affirm the biblical standard of marriage as between one man and one woman, and reject all forms of sexual immorality.
The Family
We believe the family is ordained by God. Marriage is a sacred union between one man and one woman. Children are a blessing from the Lord and are to be raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
The Return of Christ (Eschatology)
We believe in the literal, bodily return of Jesus Christ. We hold to a historic premillennial view, that Christ will return to establish His kingdom and reign in righteousness. We believe in the final judgment of all people and the eternal state of both the saved and the lost.
Eternal Destiny
We believe that those who have trusted in Christ will dwell forever with the Lord in heaven, and those who reject Him will face eternal separation in hell.
Doctrine and Faithfulness
We are committed to the pattern of sound doctrine laid out by Christ and His apostles. We hold to a non-Calvinistic understanding of salvation, affirming both the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man. Our desire is to remain faithful to the whole counsel of God’s Word, without adding to or taking away from it.
Church Identity
We believe that every true believer is part of the body of Christ, and we do not limit the church to any one group or assembly. Our aim is not to follow movements or labels, but to walk in the truth of Scripture, love one another, and faithfully serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
